About Me!

Hi everyone! My name is Nicole Hague (she/her), I am in my 3rd year at UVIC, majoring in Political Science and minoring in Technology and Society.

A little bit about me: I am from Parksville, BC. it’s a small city central of Vancouver Island, and only about a two hour drive from Victoria. Parksville is best known for its sandy ocean beaches and the cities annual sandcastle-building competition that occurs every summer from July to August. I spent my summers in Parksville mostly outdoors, whether it was swimming, paddleboarding or playing beach volleyball; there are endless things to do and places to explore with the right weather! I’ve now spent the past two years full time in Victoria, and as much as I love my hometown, nothing compares to this city.

I spend my spare time sewing, going to the gym, doing yoga and cooking, and also work part time as a beverage cart girl at the golf course here in Victoria.

I am looking forward to spending this summer semester with everyone!

Peer Review – Basic Nutrition in our Daily Diet

Overview of the Resource

I opted to review your IRL as the topic is one that resonates with me personally since I have struggled a lot to find a daily diet that works for me. I think educating students on what not only a healthy diet looks like but also a healthy lifestyle in general is very important for the teaching curriculum. I think your group did a great job incorporating multiple resources and integrated images and videos thoroughly to create a better understanding of the information. Additionally, I am also happy to see that different types of diets were also represented such as, vegan, vegetarian, pescartarian ect..

Context

  • Grammar correction: ‘which’ should be replaced with ‘that’ in the sentence “To do so, we must consume foods which contain these nutrients.”
  • I thought the incorporation of a lot of images, nutrition charts and videos helped a lot with getting your information as well as message across.
  • Overall there were no other grammatical or spelling errors I could find!

Different Diets

  • Spelling correction: should be spelt ‘consists’ in the sentence “This diet constits of things such as fruits and vegetables..” as well as in the sentence “The vegetarian diet constits of people not..”
  • Spelling correction: should be spelt ‘cuisines’ in the sentence “..based on the cuismes of Greece..”
  • Spelling correction: should be spelt ‘Italy’ and ‘countries’ in the sentence “..Itaky and other countires that border..”
    • I thought this section on discussing the most common diets that are seen today was very informative. Although as a vegetarian myself, I would suggest maybe doing a bit more research or rewording your information given in that section.

Curricular Connections

  • I thought it fit into the BC curriculum perfectly and does not need any improvements here.

Technical/ Structural Suggestions

I was impressed with how organized and engaging the content was, I think the document went above and beyond with the details. The thing that stood out most to me was that the graded section of  ‘Assignment 1’ had a real nutrition quiz created on quizlet; I thought this was a great detail added. I don’t have any technical or structural suggestions, overall I thought the content was very well put together and was fairly easy to navigate.

Assessment Activities Suggestion

In terms of the assessment activities, I might suggest including what age range these topics and assignments are directed towards. In regards to the interactiveness of the assignments and acitivies, I think your group created a very appealing way for students to engage with the material.

Final Thoughts

  • I loved the format and the template your group used to create this assignment; I thought it made the content much more engaging and approachable!
  • Altogether I thought your group did an amazing job and there is not anything else I would suggest to change or improve for in the future!
